This installation in the first gallery consists of a line drawn in the middle of the baseboard to show what "level" is. This line goes up and down the baseboard, depending on how much the house has settled in that part of the room since it was built in 1842. Above this line, the paint is a darker shade of white, going up to the ceiling.
